Offset Printing
1. Brief Introduction
Offset printing, also known as lithographic printing, is the most widely used mainstream printing technology for commercial printing, packaging, picture albums, posters, color boxes, books and periodicals. It is an indirect printing method based on the principle that oil and water do not mix.
The graphic areas on the printing plate attract ink and repel water, while the blank areas attract water and repel ink. The ink is first transferred to the rubber blanket cylinder, and then printed onto substrates such as paper and cardboard. This is how the name "offset printing" comes from.
2. Process Features
- Excellent color reproduction: Fine halftone dots, rich color gradations. It performs well on gradients, portraits and real-scene images with clear and soft printing effects.
- Cost-effective for mass production: Ideal for medium and large-batch orders. The unit cost decreases as the printing quantity increases, yet it is not suitable for small-batch customized jobs.
- Wide range of substrates: Compatible with coated art paper, matte paper, white cardboard, kraft paper, offset paper and most other paper materials.
- Smooth surface: The finished prints have a flat surface without uneven texture, with thin and uniform ink layers.
- High accuracy: Delivers precise multi-color overprinting and stable performance for four-color process and spot color printing.
3. Common Applications
Corporate brochures, promotional posters, product manuals, packaging boxes, paper bags, magazines, labels, desk calendars, wall calendars, gift packaging and other general color printed products.
4. Basic Production Process
Plate making → Ink and water adjustment → Ink transfer to blanket → Printing onto paper → Drying → Post-processing (laminating, hot stamping, die-cutting, box assembling, etc.)
